History of GateBall

Gateball was invented in 1947 in the small town of Memuro, in Hokkaido, Japan. Eiji Suzuki was the creator of this popular sport. In the midst of the chaos after World War II, he wanted to give poor children who had no toys something simple to enjoy. Inspired by the western ball game "croquet", he idealized the gateball, since it doesn’t need too much space and equipment.
At the beggining the sport was thought for kids, but through the time it really envolved the old-aged ones. At the end of 80’s, the gateball started to “boom” in Kyushu and since then to spread throughout the Japan.
The creator, Eiji Suzuki died in 1983 when dedicating to the unification of the game rules. Just after the regulation, the gateball have quickly spread through the world, including countries such as China and Brasil.
